First Word on Horror - Frontier Death Song - Part Three

Author Laird Barron on a strange thing that happened to him in Seattle, the freedom of genre, how it feels to die, and the possibility of a good death.

Our final episode with Laird.

First Word on Horror really started here with this interview with Laird. It was the first interview filmed, scheduled following the medical emergency that Laird describes in this episode. Once we saw how well the interview turned out, how revealing it was to intercut between an author and their work, we decided to make more.

Laird’s currently working on a number of books & stories including some in his dark fantasy setting (very excited for that).

You can find him on his patreon. Worth checking out and worth subscribing.

A Free Range Appetite

Laird has a vast and deep appetite for culture of all kinds.

Off camera, conversations with him range from the intense, near nihilistic appeal of some of Bergman’s classics to the sublime joy of watching Burt Reynold’s punch and drive his way through the South. He’s as likely to be talking about the TV show Supernatural and the appeal of those ole Winchester brothers as he is to be waxing poetic about the enduring lessons of Hemingway.

That kind of (small “c”) catholic taste is very much what we’re all about here at Etch.

We like to take the high brow and smash it into the low brow and see what comes of it.
