Santiago Caruso
The artwork in Mariana’s episode was created by Argentinian artist Santiago Caruso. Santiago is a world-renowned artist of horror and the macabre. His work has graced the covers of horror novels, heavy metal albums and more.
It was always the intention to have Mariana’s story illustrated to create a kind of Reading Rainbow-like interpretation of it. When this was mentioned to Mariana, she immediately suggested that Santiago be the artist to create the work. They are friends and have collaborated on various projects in the past.
Working with Caruso on the artwork for this episode was, truly, a dream. His interpretations of the story help ground it in a place and time, and they add further shades to Adela, the narrator, and their journey into an inescapable darkness.
If you want to see more of Santiago’s work, you can find it on his website and on his instagram.
… what’s next for Etch?
If you watch this episode to the end, you’ll get a sneak peak at three of the things we have in the works. No release dates for those yet but we’ll keep you posted.
In the coming weeks we’ll be sharing never-before-seen clips from the first season of First Word on Horror.
And after that? well… it’s going to be a spine-tingling summer around here.
