First Word on Horror - Elizabeth Hand & the Bands

What music gets Elizabeth Hand going?

Music is incredibly important to Liz’s life and work.

To honor that and help get everyone into her headspace, we created this playlist featuring some of the bands and musicians that she loves.

Honestly, it could have been like five hours worth of music. We tried to keep it succinct.

Hopefully it’ll serve as inspiration for everyone out there too.

Enjoy!

Bonus Music Recommendation!

In an off-camera conversation Liz mentioned all the research she did on Black Metal while writing Available Dark and flagged the song “793” by Enslaved as a personal favorite.

We didn’t put it in the playlist as it felt a little jarring to go from Patti Smith to Grutle Kjellson. But such are the disparate cultural touchstones that connect in Liz’s mind to make great writing.

She highly recommends the live version of the song here:

Jesus died for somebody’s sins. But not mine.
